Case study · Pulper transmission

Fixing the cause, not just the symptom.

A heavy pulley was affecting the rotor position, creating leakage, internal contact and unwanted bearing load.

Pulper pulley and engineered support
PROBLEM

Multiple connected failures

Seal leakage, impeller contact against the housing, component wear and axial bearing load.

SOLUTION

Additional pulley support

A support was designed and installed to carry the heavy pulley and hold the rotor in its correct position.

FOLLOW-UP

Six months of proper operation

The equipment operated properly and the identified problems did not recur during the follow-up period.

What was happening

The symptoms shared one mechanical cause.

The heavy transmission pulley affected the rotor's operating position. The stuffing-box seal leaked considerably, the impeller settled against the housing and wore through contact, and the bearings were subjected to unwanted axial load.

Replacing the seal or worn parts alone would not correct the condition causing the failures.

The intervention

Restore the rotor position and redirect the load.

The added support carried the pulley, kept the rotor in its intended position and relieved axial load from the bearings. This corrected the leakage and stopped contact between the impeller and housing.
